heal: to cause an undesirable condition to be overcome
I believe that stories are fundamental to soul-healing. I believe writing them, telling them, and hearing them is healing. Stories remind us that we are not alone. They caution us, they warn us, they embolden us.
Stories are elemental to the human experience. We need stories. We need them because they are what connect us to each other. Stories teach us who we are. And hopefully, they teach how we should live. As a storyteller, I certainly hope to inspire empathy, sympathy, laughter, hope—perhaps even anger? I tell you a story in hopes that you and I will connect in a shared human experience. I tell you a story because I want you to share in the same feelings that I had when I first heard it, and in that way, you and I, even for just a moment, feel less alone. If I can make you feel something, if my song or my story can move you to feel a powerful emotion, then I have already persuaded you to join me in a shared experience that suspends the separation and isolation that is the human condition. So, go. Go tell your story. Become part of a global movement to find healing through story, and then to offer it to others.
